TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to work with the Associated Students of California State University, Long Beach to display the official "Beach" University flag outside of City Hall.

DISCUSSION
It is known that California State University, Long Beach is one of America's best
universities. The University plays an important role in our city and beyond. They
have been a great neighbor and have produced much our city's workforce.
Student body president Jamie Pollock and her student government team have
requested that CSULB's official flag be flown at City Hall on one of the empty flag
poles. Her letter is attached.
Currently outside of City Hall, there are empty flagpoles that are rarely if ever
utilized. These poles are west of Centennial Plaza and face the Broadway
Avenue parking structure.
We should show support for the 35,000 students of "The Beach," and proudly fly
their flag outside City Hall. Since there are other available flagpoles, we could
also look into flying the Long Beach Community College and Long Beach Unified
School District flags as well.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
