TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to have a staff member obtain the information on "J for Jobs," if appropriate; and to include such information in all City of Long Beach development opportunities.

DISCUSSION
Over the last year, the Long Beach City Council has taken greater steps to partner with the construction and building trades on public projects to maximize the quality of work with a trained workforce, expedite completion of projects and finally increase employment opportunities for local residents.

In 1977, "J for Jobs" was instituted as a program to benefit developers who utilized workers within the construction trade industry. "J for Jobs" provides funding opportunities that might otherwise be difficult to obtain, particularly for small to medium sized businesses. "J for Jobs" is a VOLUNTARY program available to any developer who employs workers from their respective Building and Trades Council.

On Wednesday, November 16, 2005, a workshop will be conducted at Laborers' Local 507 located at 3919 Paramount Boulevard in Lakewood starting at 1 :OOpm.
Attached is a list of several completed projects within the United States.
