TITLE
Recommendation to respectfully ask City Council to oppose California Propositions 74, 75 and 76 because of the negative impact on local services.

DISCUSSION
Propositions 74, 75 and 76 on the November 8th ballot, will make it more difficult to attract qualified teachers to our urban schools, silence worker's voices and allow the state to raid local tax coffers.

- Prop 74 ignors the realities of underfunding, overcrowding, and the lack of materials and resources needed for effective teaching and learning in our community.

- Prop 75 attacks families by reducing our ability to speak out against measures that threaten education, health care and public safety.

- Prop 76 threatens public safety by allowing the state - once again -to balance the budget on the backs of local government.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
