TITLE

DISCUSSION
The pavement on Cherry Avenue between Spring Street and 32nd Street and Wardlow Road and Bixby Road is in need of rehabilitation. The rehabilitation work consists of replacing damaged curbs and gutters, trimming and root pruning trees, removing and replacing bituminous surfaces, cold milling, resurfacing the pavement and installing new pavement markings, loop detectors and a traffic signal interconnect system. City Council adoption of the plans and specifications and award of contract to the lowest responsible bidder are being recommended concurrently to expedite the project implementation. The project was advertised for bids on September 9, 2005, and bids were opened on October 5, 2005. Information regarding the bid and All American Asphalt is available on the attached contract awards document.

This matter was reviewed by Senior Deputy City Attorney Donna F. Gwin on October 17, 2005, and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on October 18, 2005. In accordance with the California .Environmental Quality Act, Categorical Exemption Number CEP-593-02 has been issued for this project.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action on this matter is requested on November I, 2005, to authorize commencement of this Public Works project. Construction is anticipated to begin in January 2006 and should take approximately 45 working days to complete.

FISCAL IMPACT
The contract award is for an estimated amount of $815,820. Sufficient funds to cover the contract are budgeted in the Transportation Fund (SR 182) in the Department of Public Works (PW). The funding sources are Proposition C monies.
