TITLE

DISCUSSION
Partners of Parks, in cooperation with the Commission on Youth and Children of the City of Long Beach and through the contributions from and support of the Home Depot, has
awarded the City of Long Beach funding in the amount of $3,600. Under two separate agreements, each in the amount of $1,800, the Department of Health and Human Services
(DHHS) will implement youth-focused projects that address community issues and challenges. Under one agreement, staff at the DHHS Youth Drop-in Center will plan and organize a
back-to-school dance. The event, entitled "Back in Style," will take place in August 2005 and will promote teen pregnancy prevention messages among high-risk youth. The second agreement supports the efforts of the DHHS' Men Achieving Goals in the Community (MAGIC) Youth Leaders to convene a steering committee composed of adults and youth to plan and organize a photography project and exhibit called "Shooting
Pictures, Not Bullets," for high-risk adolescents residing in Long Beach. This matter was reviewed by Senior Deputy City Attorney Donna F. Gwin on June 20, 2005 and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on June 22, 2005.
