Recommendation to repeal Preferential Parking District "U." (District 7)
DISCUSSION
The Traffic Engineering Division has received a request from the residents of Preferential Parking District "U" for the repeal of their preferential parking district and the removal of the accompanying two-hour parking restrictions. Preferential Parking District "U" comprises the residential portion of the north side of Thirty-Sixth Street from the alley west of Cherry Avenue to Gardenia Avenue and the south side of Thirty-Sixth
Street from Gardenia Avenue to Cherry Avenue; and both sides of Gardenia Avenue, from Thirty-Sixth Street to the alley north of Wardlow Road (see attached map).
In response to the residents' request, staff conducted a parking review of the area during various times of the day. This review confirmed the residents' contention that employees and patrons of near-by businesses are no longer significantly impacting onstreet parking availability for residents of the area. In addition, only 15 preferential parking permits have been issued in Preferential Parking District "U" this year. Based
on these findings, the City Traffic Engineer has concluded that the parking conditions in the neighborhood that originally warranted the establishment of the District are no longer present and that a substantial number of eligible residents are no longer participating in the preferential parking program.
A petition circulated among the 44 residential properties within Preferential Parking District "U" revealed that 85 percent of the residents are in favor of the repeal of the preferential parking district and its accompanying two-hour parking restriction.
Therefore, in consideration of the above findings, the City Traffic Engineer recommends the repeal of Preferential Parking District "U" and the removal of the accompanying two hour parking restriction.
