TITLE
Recommendation to request City Attorney to prepare an amendment to the Long Beach Municipal Code extending the downtown pilot newsrack program with the recommended modifications.  (Districts 1,2)

DISCUSSION
In June of 2004, the City Council adopted an ordinance revising Chapter 14.20 of the Long City received the cooperation of the news vendors in implementing this program, and the Beach Municipal Code establishing a pilot newsrack program in the downtown area. The Pine Avenue streetscape has been improved by this effort. Public Works requests to
extend the program for another year. At the request of the Downtown Long Beach Business Association, a minor modification to the program requirements is recommended. The current requirement for spacing between groups of three newsracks is 18 inches. In order to be consistent with other sections of Chapter 14, as well as ADA standards, it is recommended that the minimum spacing between groups of newsracks be increased to 5 feet.
