DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to enter into an annual Citywide contract for furnishing and delivering uniforms, accessories and miscellaneous equipment to maintain the City's dress codes and standards for uniformed officers.  Departments participating in this contract include Fire, Harbor, Health and Human Services, Parks, Recreation and Marine, Police, and Public Works.
 
The bid was advertised on March 17, 2005, and 15 potential bidders specializing in uniforms, accessories and miscellaneous equipment were notified of the bid opportunity; 1 is a Minority-owned Business Enterprise (MBE), 2 are Women-owned Business Enterprises (WBEs), and 1 is a Long Beach business.  The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division located on the Plaza Level of City Hall and the Division's website at www.lbpurchasing.org <http://www.lbpurchasing.org/>.  A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division's weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities sent to 32 local, minority, and women's groups.  Bids were opened on April 7, 2005.  Aramark Uniform Services, dba Long Beach Uniform, of Burbank, California, was the lowest responsible bidder.
 
This matter was reviewed by Senior Deputy City Attorney Donna F. Gwin on March 13, 2005 and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on May 12, 2005.
