TITLE
Recommendation to respectfully request City Council approval of the 2014 State Legislative Agenda as recommended by the State Legislation Committee.

DISCUSSION
Each year the City Council adopts a State Legislative Agenda, which outlines Long Beach's State legislative priorities for the coming year.  This document provides important policy direction for staff to follow regarding State legislative issues.

At the State Legislation Committee meeting on January 7, 2014, the Committee heard a staff report regarding staff's recommended changes to the State Legislative Agenda.  The Committee voted to forward all of staff's recommended changes to the City Council for adoption.  In addition to staff's recommended changes, the Committee proposed to add language in support of retaining film industry jobs and associated economic benefits in California.  This language reads as follows:

Business Growth and Workforce Development
Item E. Economic Development
Item 8. Support legislation that would help California retain film industry jobs and associated economic benefits, including legislation to prevent runaway production.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

STATE LEGISLATION COMMITTEE

Councilmember Patrick O'Donnell, Chair
