TITLE
Recommendation to request City Attorney to draft an ordinance requiring future food concessionaire contractors at the Long Beach Airport and Convention Center to pay wages consistent to those required by Measure N.

DISCUSSION
Food service concessionaires at the Airport and Convention Center benefit from unique locations and a "captured market." However, many of the food service workers are not paid a living wage.

The City of Long Beach should follow the lead of other localities that require the payment of living wages by concessionaires to ensure that jobs assisted by the City are not adding to poverty in our community-but instead allow these workers to support their local economy by paying them a living wage.

Finally, in order to avoid enforcement expenses on the part of the City, the new ordinance should include a private right of action similar to Measure N.

FISCAL IMPACT
None.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
