DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into an annual contract with BSN Sports, Inc., for furnishing and delivering sports equipment to be used by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM). Equipment purchases support year-round sports programs for youth and adults, as well as after-school recreation activities.

Girls and boys, between the ages of five and fourteen, may participate in a variety of sports programs throughout the year, including flag football, volleyball, basketball, indoor soccer, t-ball, softball, and volley tennis, as well as after-school fitness and recreation activities, that utilize equipment purchased by PRM. In addition, many adult and senior sports programs in the City of Long Beach (City) are provided equipment under this contract.

The bid was advertised in the Press-Telegram on August 30, 2013, and 252 potential bidders specializing in sports equipment were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those bidders, 26 downloaded the bid via our electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the seventh floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing. A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 30 local, minority, and women-owned business groups.
