TITLE
Recommendation to respectfully request City Manager to work with appropriate staff to incorporate a Project Labor Agreement into the release of an RFP for a new Civic Center.
DISCUSSION
In the coming months, city staff is expected to be releasing an RFP to explore the possibility of the development, construction and operations of a new Civic Center in Downtown Long Beach.
Project Labor Agreements have provided a means to bring good paying, local jobs to our community. They also ensure that projects enjoy skilled workers and labor peace-all while injecting money into the local economy.
Several successful examples of recent projects in which a PLA has been included are the: Long Beach Airport Terminal Modernization Project, The Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement Project and the recently opened Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse.
We request that the City Council signal our intention to incorporate a Project Labor Agreement into any RFP related to a new Civic Center
