TITLE
Recommendation to recognize the 15 Gold Medalist students from the Long Beach NAACP ACT-SO team and wish them well in the 2013 National ACT-SO Competition in Orlando, Florida.
DISCUSSION
The Long Beach NAACP ACT-SO team is competing in the 2013 National ACT-SO Competition in Orlando, Florida from July 11 to July 15.
ACT-SO stands for Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, and it is a major youth initiative of the NAACP. ACT-SO is a year-long enrichment program designed to recruit, stimulate, improve and encourage high academic and cultural achievement.
Gold medalists at the local level qualify for the national finals held each summer. More than 260,000 young people have benefited from the initiative's development and inspiration since its inception, including John Singleton, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Anthony Anderson.
This year, there are 15 Gold Medalists from the Long Beach NAACP ACT-SO team who will be representing Long Beach and competing in the national competition. It is appropriate to recognize these young scholars for their academic achievement and wish them well as they prepare to compete in Orlando.
