DISCUSSION
In February 2013, Centro Community Hispanic Association, Inc., (CCHA) responded to a grant solicitation from the Latino Coalition for Community Leadership and was subsequently awarded grant funds to implement a training program that will improve employment prospects of young adult-released prisoners and high school dropouts living in high-poverty, high-crime communities. The purpose of the program is to prepare these individuals for employment by increasing the employment rate of participants, decreasing the recidivism rate of young offenders served, increasing the rate at which participants receive high school diplomas and industry-recognized credentials, and increasing the rate at which participants enter post-secondary education and training. CCHA is providing these activities through a consortium of partners that includes Pacific Gateway.

CCHA will contract-in with Pacific Gateway to provide job development and job placement services to approximately 45 participants. CCHA will cover Pacific Gateway staff costs of performing those functions in an amount totaling $30,000.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Gary J. Anderson on April 26, 2013 and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on May 3, 2013.
