TITLE
Recommendation to receive presentation from City Management regarding Federal legislation that would require Long Beach residents to carry flood insurance.

DISCUSSION
Recently, the U.S. Senate has considered federal legislation that would require homeowners in much of Long Beach, including North Long Beach, East Long Beach, Wrigley, and West Long Beach, to carry flood insurance.  The City has long been on record as opposed to this legislation, which could result in Long Beach homeowners losing hundreds of dollars a year in unnecessary premiums.

Given the potential negative impact on Long Beach residents that this legislation could have, it is requested that City Management provide an update on the status of the legislation and the City's efforts to oppose it.

FISCAL IMPACT
There is no significant fiscal impact to this item.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
COUNCILMEMBER JAMES JOHNSON
