TITLE
Recommendation to request City Council to receive and file the recognition of Deon Reid as an Outstanding Student Athlete.
DISCUSSION
The City of Long Beach has long been the birthplace of star athletes. This includes a large number of student athletes. The Long Beach Polytechnic High School was named athletic school of the century and ranked number one in best high school athletic program in the nation by Sports Illustrated.
An outstanding student athlete is described as a participant that goes above and beyond the set standards in a competitive sport and grade average. They are marked by the distinction of excellence. Dean Reid is an outstanding student athlete at Polytechnic High School, where he is enrolled in the PACE program. He is an International Ambassador 2011-2012 and a Poly North Human Relations Camp-Senior Counselor-2011-2012. With a Grade Point Average of 3.69 and diving skills that has awarded him a full scholarship at Duke University, Deon is destined for Olympic gold.
His diving skills have awarded him years of athletic championships and honors that include:
· 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 Moore League
· 2010, 2011, 2012 CIF SS Div Champion
· 2009,2010,2011 CIF Masters Dive Champion- (2012 competition
was cancelled)
· Press Telegram Dream Team Athlete of the Year 2011

· Century Club Athlete of the Year (swimming/diving) -

Poly High School's Deon Reid, a senior with a very bright future, has broken the scoring record in three straight years, and broke his own record last year with a score of 404.00.
With his ambitious demeanor and exceptional intellect we recognize Deon as one of Long Beach's Outstanding Student Athletes.
