TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file a presentation on 2020 Census population data for the City of Long Beach. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
The United States Census Bureau (Bureau) has been analyzing and preparing 2020 Census (Census) data since on-the-ground operations ended on October 15, 2020. On September 16, 2021, the Bureau released the 2020 Census Redistricting Data (Public Law 94-171) Summary File to states and the public in an easier-to-use format. This information includes Census population count by race, Hispanic or Latino origin, voting age, and housing unit data for counties, places, census tracts, and blocks.
City staff have taken this first Census data release to provide early insights into statistical population changes in Long Beach. The staff presentation provides Citywide and Council District population data by: total population, race, and ethnicity. Staff will provide additional 2020 Census data as the Bureau conducts future data releases.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Taylor M. Anderson and by Revenue Management Officer Geraldine Alejo on October 22, 2021.
