TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute all necessary documents to receive and expend grant funding from the County of Los Angeles Real Estate Fraud Prosecution Program; and
Increase appropriations in the General Grants Fund (SR 120) in the Police Department (PD) by $68,777. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
On June 10, 2016, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) was awarded grant funding for the eighth consecutive year from the County of Los Angeles through the Real Estate Fraud Prosecution Program (Real Estate 16) grant in the amount of $68,777. The grant provides funding for detective overtime hours assigned to real estate fraud investigation/prosecution, supplies and training. An appropriation increase for this grant in the amount of $68,777 is required, which will be fully offset by grant revenue.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Monica J. Kilaita and by Budget Operations Administrator Grace Yoon on July 20, 2016.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on August 16, 2016, to expedite the use of the grant funds.
FISCAL IMPACT
As the Real Estate Fraud Prosecution Program (Real Estate 16) grant is currently unbudgeted, an appropriation increase in the General Grants Fund (SR 120) in the Police Department (PD) in the amount of $68,777 is recommended. Grant revenues will offset the expense appropriation and the grant does not require matching funds. Grant funds will be used to support overtime, supplies and training required to implement the Real Estate 16 Program. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
