DISCUSSION

Councilmember Uranga would like to support the 2023 Long Beach Juneteenth Celebration. Juneteenth is an important holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in America. This annual event celebrates black culture and freedom and promotes an atmosphere of inclusion, equity, and belonging. It is important that we support the joy of the Juneteenth celebration while raising awareness of the important history of Juneteenth.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

[Timing Considerations]

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide funds to Partners of Parks to support the 2023 Long Beach Juneteenth Celebration as written above. The total appropriation increase of $1,000 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Seventh Council District One-Time District Priority funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to have minimal impact on staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and a minimal impact on existing Council priorities.
