Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute a Sixth Amendment to Contract No. 31137 with CH2M Hill, Inc., of Santa Ana, CA, for engineering services for the Deforest Wetlands Restoration Project, to increase the contract amount by $348,496, for a total amount not to exceed $1,451,367 and extend the current contract term one additional year to April 30, 2019. DISCUSSION
City Council action is requested to amend Contract No. 31137 with CH2M Hill, Inc., by increasing the contract amount by $348,496, and extending the contract term by one year to April 30, 2019.
On December 16, 2008, the City Council selected CH2M Hill, Inc. (CH2M), to provide specialized engineering design services, contractor procurement support, and technical support, and biological monitoring during construction for the DeForest Wetlands Restoration Project (Project).
The Project provides native-habitat restoration, water quality improvement, and enhanced opportunities for passive recreational use on a 29-acre parcel located near the existing DeForest Park Nature Center in Long Beach. The nature center lies along the Los Angeles River, north of Long Beach Boulevard and south of the developed portions of DeForest Park. It is part of the larger stormwater detention basin that includes open lands from Del Amo Boulevard north to DeForest Park, which collectively comprise the Project site. The Project includes enhancement of existing on-site wetlands and native vegetation plantings, removal of non-native species, and recreational improvements including trails and interpretive signs. The Project design was completed in July 2014. Construction was awarded to C. W. Crosser in May 10, 2016 and began on August 29, 2016, with a tentatively scheduled completion of April 2018.
