DISCUSSION

On September 23, 2023, Special Olympics Southern California will host their annual Plane Pull event at the Long Beach Airport. It is a team competition to see which team of 25 can pull a 124,000-pound jet 12 feet the fastest. Every dollar raised through the Plane Pull will help fund Special Olympics programs in our community. Special Olympics Southern California enriches the lives of athletes with intellectual disabilities and their communities through sports, education, and athlete health.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

[Timing Considerations]

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to Special Olympics Southern California to support the 2023 Plane Pull. The total appropriation increase of $500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease in appropriation of the Fourth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff time beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
