TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to begin the review and approval process for the street name change of Cerritos Drive, and refer the item to the Planning Commission for a public hearing and recommendation to the City Council.

DISCUSSION
Cerritos Avenue runs nearly the entire north/south length of Long Beach.
However, in the Bixby Knolls area, there is also a Cerritos Drive, which is in close proximity to Cerritos Avenue. Cerritos Drive is two blocks long near the corner of San Antonio Drive and Orange Avenue. It forms half of a circular street, with Banner Drive completing the circle.

There are several identical addresses on the 4400 block of Cerritos Drive as there are on Cerritos Avenue. This has resulted in numerous problems, including police and fire services responding to the wrong address, mail delivered to the wrong address or lost, and misdirected deliveries of packages and food.

Many impacted residents have complained about the problem and have sought the City's assistance, suggesting changing the name of Cerritos Drive. The process for a street name change is an extensive process. It involves many City departments and public outreach to the affected residents and to property owners.

Due to the public safety implications of having the duplicative addresses, I believe it is appropriate for the City Council to initiate the process for the street name change. .

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

Councilwoman Rae Gabelich, Eighth District.
