TITLE

DISCUSSION
Founded in 1986, DeForest Park Association is a grass-roots neighborhood association that serves the DeForest Park Neighborhood in North Long Beach. Their mission is to create a stronger community for the next generation by uniting community members, assisting students with their career goals, building resources for community projects, and strengthening community organizations. In September, the Deforest Park Association will host a Teen Summit event that will guide high school students on how to navigate life in college. They will learn information on how to reduce their financial burden in college, the differences that exist between a college grant and a loan, and available grants that students can apply for. This will be useful for many students in the community who do not have access to such information and may be the first in their family to attend college. This donation to the association will help them continue to serve the North Long Beach community with their services.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a donation to DeForest Park Neighborhood Association’s Teen Summit. The total appropriation increase of $325.00 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Ninth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department.
