TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager or his designee to accept an easement deed for street widening purposes at 3860 Lakewood Boulevard; and adopt and accept the Categorical Exemption No. 13-105. (District 5)
DISCUSSION
It is the goal of the Department of Public Works to widen streets to the standards established in the City’s General Plan. When significant new development is proposed, the public rights-of-way adjacent to the site are reviewed for sufficiency. Mercedes-Benz is renovating the existing Boeing 717 facility in the Douglas Aircraft Planned Development District. In order to accommodate the proposed new use of this facility, it is necessary that 5,917 square feet of property be dedicated as public right-of-way, as indicated on the attachment, in order to allow for the construction of new turn lanes and the installation of traffic signal lights at the intersection of Lakewood Boulevard and Cover Street. The project consists of the exterior and interior remodeling of existing hangar buildings of 558,000 square feet, 422,000 square feet, and 6,200 square feet, in conjunction with a new accessory carwash structure. The project site will be occupied and operated by Mercedes-Benz as a vehicle testing and preparation facility.
The developer of the subject property agreed to development conditions that include the above described dedication.
In conformance with the California Environmental Quality Act, Categorical Exemption No. CE 13-105 was issued for this project.
