Recommendation to adopt resolution declaring the results of the General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
The City Attorney has prepared a resolution declaring the results of the General Municipal Election held on November 3, 2020, to adopt Measure US -- General Purpose Oil Barrel Production Tax (Barrel Tax), elect members to City Council Districts 2, 6 and 8, and elect a member to the Long Beach Unified School Governing Board Member District 2. The Resolution is attached as Exhibit A.
The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Certificate of the canvass of the Election Returns and Statement of Votes Cast, attached as Exhibit B, provides the number of votes by precinct.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy Attorney Amy Webber on November 30, 2020 and by Budget Management Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on November 30, 2020.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
Approval of the recommended action on December 8, 2020 will meet the provisions of California Elections Code Sections 10262 and 10263, and Long Beach Charter Section 200, which establishes the start of each Council Member term as commencing on the third Tuesday of December following the date of the election.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation has no fiscal impact and no staffing impact beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is consistent with existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
