TITLE
Recommendation to refer to Parks and Recreation Commission for consideration of park naming in honor of Mary Molina.

DISCUSSION
The Molina family has served the City of Long Beach for many years as a well- known healthcare provider. The success of Molina Healthcare is attributed to their focus on serving the needs of Medicaid and low-income patients.
The Molina family is extending their generosity, recognizing the need for additional park space on the West Side, and would like to contribute a portion of the property at 1974 Santa Fe Avenue to be utilized as a pocket park. In recognition of their many contributions, I would suggest naming this pocket park
in honor of Mary Molina. Mary was a schoolteacher at Cubberley Elementary and served as a Regional President of the Parent Teacher Association. She has served as a role model in the community, which in turn has inspired her children to also take an active role in contributing to the needs of the community. Most of the Molina Family still resides in Long Beach serving Molina Healthcare, Inc. as President and Chief Executive Officer, Executive Vice President, and
Executive VP of Research and Development. In addition, one of the children, Josie, was a participant in Leadership Long Beach. Today the Molina family's three clinics and administrative offices employ nearly 200 Long Beach residents of their 500 employees who work here in the City of Long Beach. They actively participate in community events and health fairs throughout the City. Most notably, they have contributed over 400,000 books to the Book Buddies program that benefits various schools and community organizations.
