TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on travel to the Conference of Mayors event in Los Angeles, California on June 21-26, 2007.

DISCUSSION
On June 21 through June 26, I attended a Conference of Mayors event in Los Angeles, California.

At the event I met with leaders of other municipalities to discuss issues affecting local governments. The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the nonpmiisan organization of cities with populations of30,000 or more. The primary roles of the Conference of Mayors are to:

.Promote the development of effective national urban/suburban policy;

.Strengthen federal-city relationships;

.Ensure that federal policy meets urban needs;

.Provide mayors with leadership and management tools; and

.Create a forum in which mayors can share ideas and information.

At the conference I chaired the first meeting of the Sustainable Freight and Goods Movement Task Force. This task force is addressing the issue of goods movement and its effect on our communities.
