TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute a contract with Tech Construction, Inc., for making general repairs and remodeling the existing structure of the bandshell building at Bixby Park, in the estimated amount of $179,000; decrease appropriations in the Capital Projects Fund (CP) in the Department of Public Works (PW) by $75,550; and increase appropriations in the Capital Projects Fund (CP) in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PR) by $75,550. DISCUSSION
During a winter storm on February 19, 2005, a large tree limb fell on and seriously damaged the bandshell building in Bixby Park. As part of the reconstruction, recent additions to the historic structure will be removed and the building returned to its original design, under the review of the Historic Preservation Officer. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is also reviewing the damage and may reimburse the City for part of the repair costs.
City Council approval is requested to execute a contract with Tech Construction, Inc., for general repairs and remodeling of the existing bandshell structure, located at Bixby Park, 130 Cherry Avenue. The project includes: reconstruction of the northside wing to match the existing westside wing, construction of a new trellis and support columns, repair of the platform corner, repair/assembly of roof, painting of all new and existing exterior woodwork, and stripping and painting of all existing decorative window metal grills.
A Job-Walk Announcement was advertised on March 23, 2007, with 20 potential bidders in attendance. A total of four companies chose to submit proposals for the project. Tech Construction, Inc., was the lowest responsible bidder at $179,000.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Gary J. Anderson on May 23, 2007, and Budget and Performance Management Bureau Manager David Wodynski on May 23, 2007.
