TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute an amendment to the current agreement (PH-002431) between the City of Long Beach and Los Angeles County in the amount of $923,514, and any subsequent amendments, to provide Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Medical Care and Coordination Services for the period of March 1, 2015 through February 28, 2017. DISCUSSION
Since 1998, Los Angeles County has contracted with the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) to provide Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) clinical services. The Medical Care Coordination (MCC) Services Program is a multi-disciplinary educational approach that integrates medical and non-medical case management by coordinating behavioral interventions and support services with medical care to promote improved health outcomes for people with HIV. MCC team members deliver patient-centered activities that focus on addressing health status, engagement and retention in care, adherence to medications, and HIV risk reduction. The program serves approximately 230 individuals with HIV/AIDS infection who are medically indigent and would have no other means of accessing care. The grant was originally accepted by City Council on April 16, 2013. This amendment will extend the term of the agreement for another two years.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Linda Trang on March 26, 2015 and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on April 2, 2015.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on April 21, 2015, as the Health Department has been providing services under this contract since March 1, 2015, and will be able to recover costs once the contract is approved.
