TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $2,500, offset by the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide donation of:

                     1.                     $2,500 to the WomenShelter of Long Beach to support the 2023

                                          Lead with Love event; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $2,500, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

WomenShelter of Long Beach is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating domestic violence through compassionate intervention, education, and personal empowerment. The shelter provides a safe haven for families escaping trauma at home, life-saving teen dating violence prevention work in schools, and safe spaces for children and adults in counseling, education, and support groups. WSLB has been serving the Long Beach community for over 40 years and has helped thousands of families rebuild their lives after domestic violence.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution of $2,500 to the WomenShelter of Long Beach to support their causes as written above.

The appropriation increase of $2,500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

AL AUSTIN COUNCILMAN,

EIGHTH DISITRCT
