TITLE
Recommendation to adopt Specifications No. PA-00808 and award a contract to Industrial Shoe Company for safety footwear, in the estimated amount of $125,000 plus a 10 percent contingency, if necessary, for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods at the discretion of the City Manager. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into an annual contract with Industrial Shoe Company for safety footwear as part of the ongoing footwear program. State of California, Code of Regulations, Title 8, Section 3385, requires employers to provide their employees that work in an environment where foot hazards exist, with special safety footwear.
Departments participating in this contract include Long Beach Gas and Oil, Harbor, Health and Human SeNices, Library SeNices, Planning and Building, Parks, Recreation and Marine, Public Works, Technology SeNices and Water.
The bid was advertised on December 18, 2007, and 23 potential bidders specializing in safety footwear were notified of the bid opportunity; six are Minority-owned Business Enterprises (MBEs), three are Women-owned Business Enterprises (WBEs), four are Long Beach businesses, and three are certified Small Business Enterprises (SBEs). The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the Plaza Level of City Hall, and the Division's website at www.lonQbeach.Qov/purchasinQ. A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division's weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 30 local, minority, and women's business groups. Bids were opened on January 8, 2008. Industrial Shoe Company, of Santa Ana, CA (not a MBE, WBE, local or SBE), is the lowest responsible bidder.
