TITLE
Recommendation to adopt resolution declaring the results of the City's General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, for the purpose of electing a Mayor, and Members of the City Council from the third and fifth Council Districts, and directing the City Clerk to issue a Certificate of Election to the candidates declared to have been elected at the General Municipal Election; and
DISCUSSION
Attached are the Resolutions prepared by the City Attorney pertaining to the results of the General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, June 6,2006. A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Long Beach declaring the results of the City's General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, for the purpose of electing a Mayor, and Members of the City Council from the third and fifth Council Districts, and directing the City Clerk to issue a Certificate of Election to the candidates declared to have been elected at the General Municipal Election.
A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Long Beach declaring the results of the City's General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, for the purpose of electing a member of the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education Area 5.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
Municipal Code I .21.010 requires that the City Clerk shall certify the results to the City Council within twenty-one (21) days after the date of the election. The City Clerk certified the election on June 23,2006.
To complete the certification process the City Council is required to adopt a resolution reciting the fact of the election and the statement of the result as provided in section 10264 of the California Elections Code.
FISCAL IMPACT
Cost of the 2006 election cycle have been included in the adopted budget for the year 2006.
