TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on trip to the Port of Miami consisting of meetings, tours and information sessions on the modern technologies instituted by the Miami Port Authority and Carnival Cruise Lines.

DISCUSSION
On June 26-28, 2007, I traveled to Miami, Florida, with Doug Thiessen, Managing Director of Engineering of the Port of Long Beach, and Christine Shippey, Interim City Manager, to gain an in-depth understanding of the new and modern technologies being employed by the Miami Port Authority and Carnival Cruise Lines.

Carnival Cruise Lines conducts its largest cruise operation in North America at the Port of Miami and also calls at the Port of Long Beach. The meetings with Carnival Cruise Lines centered on the discussion of shoreshide power (cold ironing) at the Long Beach cruise terminal.

The trip consisted of meetings and informational tours with Carnival Cruise Lines and the Port of Miami. I will continue to work with the Long Beach City Manager's Office and the Port of Long Beach to encourage modern technologies, such as cold-ironing, at Long Beach terminals.
