DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to adopt a Resolution and authorize the City Manager to execute a contract with SVI Trucks for the purchase of one Fire Service Apparatus, for the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD). The Fire Service Apparatus is a hazardous materials response vehicle. The purchase of this vehicle will enable LBFD to enhance its capabilities to respond to incidents involving hazardous materials, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) agents in the Port of Long Beach (POLB) and throughout the City because it carries numerous meters and devices that can detect hazardous materials/WMD/CBRNE agents. In addition, the vehicle provides an interior working platform with technologically advanced equipment to assist in the command and control of such an incident. This vehicle will also provide the capability for Hazardous Materials Specialists to begin identifying and providing technical expertise for successful mitigation and rescue, as they are en route to emergency incidents.

The Department of Public Works, Fleet Services Bureau, investigated procurement options and learned that HGACBuy completed a competitive bid process under Invitation No. FS-12-11 issued on June 30, 2011 for a fire apparatus and has a contract with SVI Trucks.
