TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file presentation by the Long Beach International Trade Office.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION
The Long Beach International Trade Office (LBITO) was established in 1995 to offer international trade assistance and services to local businesses. In 2005, the City of Long Beach and the Port of Long Beach issued a Request for Proposals to select a consultant team to administer the LBITO. A team consisting of the Long Beach Center for International Trade Development, located at Long Beach City College, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation and the Los Angeles-Long Beach World Trade Center Association, was selected.

The City of Long Beach is providing annual financial support to the LBITO through the Community Development Department's Economic Development Bureau, in the amount of $50,000 from the General Purpose Fund (GP 100). The Port of Long Beach is providing annual financial support in the amount of $100,000. The LBITO is seeking additional financial support from the private sector.

The short verbal presentation by the LBITO will highlight first quarter accomplishments and prospective activities (Attachment). This letter was reviewed by Assistant City Attorney Heather A. Mahood on March 27,2006 and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on March 27,2006.
