TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file a report from staff on the Long Beach Breakwater.

DISCUSSION
The reconfiguration of the Long Beach Breakwater is a vital issue for the City.  Water quality and increased recreational opportunities are at stake in this discussion.

On June 21,2010 the United States Army Corps of Engineers announced official federal interest in reconfiguration. The Corps signed a pledge and became a partner with the City in the East San Pedro Bay Ecosystem Restoration Study. The study, which deals with reconfiguration efforts, awaits federal funding in order to move forward.

It is appropriate at this time that the Council be updated on the current status of federal funding efforts and recent changes in Corps policy that may effect the project.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
COUNCILMEMBER PATRICK O'DONNELL
