TITLE
Recommendation to request City Attorney to draft a resolution in support of Long Beach hosting the National League of Cities 2018 City Summit.

DISCUSSION
The City of Long Beach, as a member of the National League of Cities has the opportunity to send representatives to many new and exciting host cities for the annual National City Summit. The National League of Cities will soon be selecting a host city for the 2018 City Summit and the City of Long Beach, in conjunction with the Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau, is submitting an application.

Long Beach is an ideal host city as our Long Beach Convention Center sits in the middle of our downtown waterfront with panoramic views of the Pacific shoreline. The Convention Center is just steps from our downtown hotels, connected by eyecatching pedestrian promenades. Within an 8-block radius, there are attractions, shopping, entertainment, and more than 125 quality restaurants serving cuisines from around the world. Long Beach's well-lit walkways and promenades provide stunning oceanfront vistas where visitors can enjoy the vibrant blending of urban amenities with the welcoming atmosphere of a seaside community.

Long Beach features its own world-class attractions, including the Queen Mary, Aquarium of the Pacific, Rainbow Harbor, and four distinctive museums, and we are just a short drive from all the great attractions of Southern California. Long Beach is an engaging blend of big city excitement alongside the welcoming and relaxed atmosphere of a beach community and would be an ideal host city.

FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact for this resolution, but should Long Beach be selected, there will be a positive fiscal impactto hosting the National League of Cities 2018 City Summit.
