TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute a second amendment to the contract with McKasson, Klein & Holmes
(CC #28166) to provide maritime counsel services.
DISCUSSION
The City Council is requested to authorize the City Manager to execute a second amendment to the McKasson, Klein & Holmes contract, to extend the term of the contract and to increase the hourly rate to $250 per hour. This office keeps on retainer special counsel skilled in admiralty practice and maritime law. In recent years, billings have averaged less than $10,000 a year, but the firm is available should there be any maritime incidents, such as damage to docks by vessels, etc. We would like to extend the term of this contract to February 28, 2010 and increase the hourly rate to $250. In all other respects, the contract remains unchanged.
All expenditures will be paid from the Harbor Revenue Fund. These amounts (currently set at a limit of $100,000) may be increased, if necessary, by the Board of Harbor Commissioners.
