TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay the sum of $18,500 in full settlement of lawsuits entitled Jauna Cera v. City of Long Beach, Case No. NC039172, consolidated with Allstate Insurance Company v. City of Long Beach.
DISCUSSION
Plaintiff Juana Cera alleges that on May 22, 2006 she sustained personal injuries when a city owned truck came in contact with her car causing the car to spin out. Allstate insured the car, and seeks recovery of the property damage.
Following a mediation session with retired Superior Court Judge Norman Gordon, Plaintiff and Allstate have agreed to settle this matter for a total of $18,500.
The proposed settlement was presented to the Economic Development and Finance Committee on August 21,2007, and was approved on that date. We therefore ask authority to pay the sum of $12,000 in full settlement of this plaintiff's lawsuit and $ 6,500 in full settlement of Allstate's lawsuit.
