DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to enter into a contract for furnishing and delivering lumber and related building material to repair, replace and maintain the City’s facilities and for special projects. Departments participating in this contract include Gas and Oil, Harbor, Parks, Recreation and Marine, Public Works, and Water.

The bid was advertised on October 6, 2005, and 13 potential bidders specializing in providing lumber and related building material were notified; two are Minority-owned Business Enterprises (MBEs), five are Women-owned Business Enterprises (WBEs), and three are Long Beach businesses. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division located on the Plaza Level of City Hall and the Division’s website at www.lbpurchasina.org. A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update on Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 32 local, minority, and women’s groups. Bids were opened on October 20,2005. Ganahl Lumber of Anaheim, CAI and Penn Forest Products, Inc., of Long Beach, CAI were the lowest responsible bidders.

This matter was reviewed by Senior Deputy City Attorney Donna F. Gwin on September 29,2005 and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on November 3,2005.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action to adopt Specifications No. PA-00106 and award the contracts concurrently is requested on November 22, 2005 to ensure that the contracts are in place expeditiously.
