TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Health and Human Services Department by $2,500, offset by the Fourth Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department to provide supplemental funding for the Long Beach Veterans Day Celebration; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $2,500 to offset a transfer to the Health and Human Services Department.

DISCUSSION

On Saturday, November 11, the City of Long Beach will be hosting the Long Beach Veterans Day Celebration. This celebration will bring Veterans and non-Veterans together to celebrate, honor and recognize Veterans for their strengths and as valued members of our community. This is consistent with goal 1 of the Veterans Strategic Plan presented to the Long Beach City Council on March 15, 2022. The event will be free and open to the public. The request to provide supplemental funding for the celebration will assist in augmenting the efforts of the Health and Human Services Department and the Veterans Affairs Commission.

This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on September 1, 2023.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation provides funding to the Health and Human Services Department for the Long Beach Veterans Day Celebration. The total appropriation increase of $2,500 in the General Fund Group in the Health and Human Services Department will be offset by a decrease in appropriation of Fourth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.
