DISCUSSION
The Earl B. and Loraine H. Miler Foundation (Miller Foundation) has awarded the City of Long Beach an $88 000 grant to expand family-centered health education programming at the Miller Family Health Education Center (MFHEC), and to increase outreach to promote these services in the community. This grant program wil build on a 2005-2006 grant from the Miller Foundation , which funded monthly health education forums, the development and upkeep of an MFHEC website , and the expansion of the public health resource library. Last year s funding from the Miler
Foundation made it possible for the City s Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) to fulfil many of its initial goals for the MFHEC , including expanding opportunities for limited English speaking and low-income families to access health education programs and services. There were a total of 580 participant visits to the 12 health education forums that were provided in a multilngual format. More than 300 on-site childcare visits were provided during the forums and transportation services for more than 100 families were provided to enable familes to take part in the events. The 2006-2007 funding from the Miler Foundation wil enable the Health Department to continue to hold health education forums that focus on children s health and to maintain the MFHEC website which provides current information on resources at the MFHEC and in the community.
