TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $2,500, offset by the First Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide a donation to Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Inc; and
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $2,500 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
This year Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Inc, a 501(c)3 organization, will be producing the 39th Annual Long Beach Pride which will consist of Long Beach Teen Pride on Friday, July 8th, the Long Beach Pride Festival on Saturday, July 9th and Sunday, July 10th, as well as the Long Beach Pride Parade on Sunday, July 10th. Each of these events are a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community as Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Inc. works to produce and support activities that educate, encourage, and celebrate Pride, inclusion, and respect for humanity.
Recent events have shown that rights for individuals in our country are not certain. As a city it is important that we work with the LGBTQ+ community and Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Inc. to work towards that better future where all members of society are included and respected. The 39th Annual Long Beach Pride is a significant cultural and educational experience in Long Beach, and it is appropriate for the City Council to support Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Inc.as they produce the 39th Annual Long Beach Pride.
