TITLE
Recommendation to adopt Plans and Specifications No. R-6714 for the removal and replacement of the Long Beach Terrace and Center Theater roofs; and authorize City Manager to award the contract to the Anning Johnson Company for $462,670 and execute all necessary documents related to the contract. DISCUSSION
The existing roofs on the Terrace and Center Theaters were installed in 1977 with a life expectancy of 20-25 years as part of the original construction. Both roofs began leaking in 2000 and the severity of the leaks has increased in recent years to the point of impacting operations. In the fall of 2005, Financial Management projected a one-year significant increase in Tidelands revenue due to high oil prices. At that time, Tidelands operating departments were asked to submit a list of capital projects that were underfunded in an effort to develop a citywide list of Tidelands priority projects. Community Development submitted the replacement of the Terrace and Center Theater roofs as its number one priority and in early 2006, the City Manager approved a list of Tidelands projects including the Terrace and Center Theater roof replacements.
The project consists of removing the existing roof surface and placing a new, Title 24compliant, white PVC roof membrane on the Long Beach Terrace Theater and Center Theater roofs located at 300 E. Ocean Blvd. The scope of work includes removal of the existing gravel roof surface, replacing damaged insulation, installation of a walking path, reworking existing drains and replacement of flashing.
The project was advertised for bids on September 8, 2006 in the Long Beach PressTelegram and at www.PlanetBids.com. the website the City utilizes to post public bids, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and Requests for Qualifications (RFQs).
