DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Tri-Pacific Supply, Inc., to furnish and deliver Sensus natural gas meters. Sensus natural gas meters are the Energy Resources Department (ER) approved meters for most residential and small commercial kitchen customers located in Long Beach and Signal Hill.

Tri-Pacific Supply, Inc., is the sole source supplier for purchasing and delivering Sensus natural gas meters. Sensus gas meters have been reviewed, tested, and approved for ER’s natural gas distribution system. ER’s staff is fully trained on installing, maintaining, and repairing these natural gas meters as these meters have proven reliable and durable.

City Charter Section 1801 requires that contracts for City purchases be awarded to the lowest responsible bidder after a competitive bid process but allows for awards without a competitive bid process when authorized by a Resolution adopted by the City Council.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Richard F. Anthony on February 7, 2022, Purchasing Agent Michelle Wilson on February 8, 2022, and by Revenue Management Officer Geraldine Alejo on February 14, 2022.
