TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute an agreement, and any necessary documents including subsequent amendments, with Bay Area Community Resources, on behalf of the California Climate Action Corps Program, for the placement of two California Climate Action Fellows (Fellows) in the Office of Sustainability and Development Services Department, at no cost to the City of Long Beach, for the period of September 2022 to December 2023. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into an agreement with the Local Government Commission (LGC), for placement of two Fellows to provide support to the Office of Sustainability in their community outreach and education activities and the Development Services Department in their Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) implementation efforts, through the California Climate Action Corps program.
The California Climate Action Corps program is funded by California Volunteers, Office of the Governor, and operated by Bay Area Community Resources (BACR). BACR has contracted with AmeriCorps (formerly Corporation for National and Community Service - CNCS) through California Volunteers to implement the California Climate Action Corps. BACR recruits, hires, and supervises emerging professionals who in turn provide capacity building services to government agencies, tribes, nonprofit organizations, and colleges or universities in California. In collaboration with BACR, the Office of Sustainability has identified potential placement for up to two Fellows for an 11-month period beginning September 2022. The California Climate Action Fellows will assist the Office of Sustainability and the Development Services Department with implementation of the CAAP and sustainability programs.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Erin Weesner-McKinley on July 8, 2022 and by Budget Operations and Development Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on July 13, 2022.
