TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on the Independent Cities Association seminar on "School Violence in the 21st Century."

DISCUSSION
The Independent Cities Association maintains public/private partnerships with carefully selected public and private sector organizations for the purpose of furthering interests of all concerned. As an educator and a Councilmember, an issue of paramount concern is the safety of our children.

From February 2nd through 4th, I attended the Independent Cities Association seminar on "School Violence in the 21st Century" in Santa Barbara, California.

The conference provided numerous panel discussions from experts on the issue of violence in our schools, and how we as policymakers can assist our public safety employees in preventing potential issues in our classrooms. I hope to be returning to this body in the near future to work with my colleagues on the numerous innovative ideas discussed at the seminar.
