TITLE
Recommendation to request City Attorney draft an amendment to the Long Beach Municipal Code Section 2.52.020 to add fire services to the public safety policy matters which the Public Safety Advisory Commission may consider.

DISCUSSION
The Long Beach Public Safety Advisory Commission (PSAC) has an outstanding record of providing in-depth analyses and thoughtful policy recommendations to the City Council on public safety issues. PSAC serves as a forum for community discussion of these public safety policy issues and encourages participation from all sectors of the community.

Long Beach Municipal Code 2.52.020 limits the purpose of PSAC "to consider only those public safety policy matters over which the city council has control that are related to police service."

As fire services are a critical element of public safety in the City of Long Beach, I recommend an amendment to the Long Beach Municipal Code to add fire services to the public safety policy matters which the Public Safety Advisory Commission may consider. With the amendment, the purpose of PSAC in the Municipal Code would be "to consider only those public safety policy matters over which the city council has control that are related to police and fire services." (change bolded for emphasis)
