TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department in the amount of $500, offset by the Fourth Council District one-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to support the Historical Society of Long Beach's upcoming exhibition, Water Changes Everything; and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION

The Historical Society of Long Beach reached out to the Fourth District Council Office to support their upcoming exhibition, Water Changes Everything. They are developing an exhibition that explores how humans attempted to harness local rivers, utilize the ocean front, and find enough fresh water to develop a city. The show culminates with water challenges today, water conservation, sea level rise, water pollution, wetlands restoration, water infrastructure and supply, and climate change. They will be highlighting areas in the Fourth Council District such as Reservoir Hill, the Stearns Park Artesian wells, Bouton Creek and San Gabriel River south of Spring St.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation provides Fourth Council District Priority Funds to support the Historical Society of Long Beach's upcoming exhibit, Water Changes Everything. The total appropriation increase of $500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease in appropriation of the Fourth Council District one-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. Completing this work is anticipated to require a minimal impact on staff time beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
