TITLE
Recommendation to refer to the Parks and Recreation Commission a request to recommend a name for the park on Baker Street, taking into account all proposed names as well as additional public input, for consideration of the Housing and Neighborhoods Committee of City Council.
DISCUSSION
The park currently being developed on Baker Street in Wrigley Heights will serve a neighborhood that has historically lacked adequate open space. The park will be a great example of a public private partnership, where public resources are matched with private funds to maximize open space. While the land has been vacant for many years, soon there will be a vitally needed park serving the community.
Prior to the City's ownership of this parcel, both the park at Baker Street and the neighboring Wrigley Heights Dog Park had a long history in the community, including equestrian use as privately owned ranches and stables for the Long Beach Police Department.
In recent years, several community members have submitted potential names for this park to the Parks, Recreation, and Marine Department. In order to maximize public input in naming this park, it is requested that the Parks and Recreation Commission consider these names, along with any further suggestions from the public, to recommend the best possible name for the park.

There is no significant fiscal impact as a result of this item.
